I recently attended the first birthday party for a little Korean girl. In the Korean culture, this traditionally is the most important birthday because if the child survived a year, the chances were good for a long life.

At the party, the parents are seated on both sides of the baby with a variety of objects in front of them including a pencil, money, and a book. The purpose is to see what the baby chooses first because that will determine what they will be in life.

For example, if they choose money, they will be in business or be wealthy. If they choose a book they will be a teacher or scholar.

So it is important to limit the choices your child has, just incase they reach for the wrong thing. But what is interesting is that this family put a Bible on the table as well. For them, that was as important a choice for the baby as wealth, education and profession. This clearly was a break with the Korean tradition. But by allowing the child to have access to the Word of God, they were giving her a choice at a happy life .. . no matter what else she chose on the table.

By the way . . . she chose the Bible. This is Nina May at ninamay.com asking if that would be your choice.

Christians might complain that Christmas has become so commercial and that culture is trying to change the meaning, or ignore the significance. But it seems the more they do, the more the world is reminded of the truth . . . in all languages . . . by most people who have been hearing Christmas carols their whole lives.

Without really understanding it, Christians and non-Christians alike, are singing the praises of God, verifying the Deity of Christ, and reminding the world that He truly is our Lord and King.

“Joy to the world, the Lord has come, let earth receive her king.  Noel, Noel, born is the King of Israel.  Round yon virgin, mother and child, holy infant, so tender and mild.  Oh morning stars together, proclaim the holy birth, and praises sing to God the King, and peace to men on earth.  Hail the king, Christ the savior is born.”

And before the first carol was written or first song sung by man, God ensured that the angels would herald the birth of his son, and sing His praises to the heavens.

“The world in solemn stillness lay, to hear the angels sing.  Shepherds hear the angels singing ’Alleluia!’  It came upon a midnight clear, that glorious song of old, from angels bending near the earth, to touch their harps of gold.   And still their heavenly music floats o’er all the weary world. And the star rains its fire while the beautiful sing, for the manger of Bethlehem cradles a King.”

So it doesn’t matter how commercial Christmas gets, or how hard people try to ignore or change the meaning. The same God who sent His son to earth, with angels heralding his arrival, can cause the rocks and stones to sing to celebrate His birth . . . but I’m sure He would rather hear it from His children, of their own free will. Wouldn’t you?

There are a number of people who monitor this station and the programs for various purposes. We know, because we get calls from them and they tell us that is the only reason they are listening. But we are thankful for that.

So in the spirit of the holiday season, I want to share a message just for them. . . There is a God, He loves you and He has a wonderful purpose for your life . . . and He wants you to know what it is.

We love when you call because it gives us an opportunity to pray for you by name and pray blessings on you and your life. The purpose of the commentaries is to encourage people to change their paradigms, challenge status quo, look at things from a different perspective. I would issue that challenge to you.

If you have disregarded, rejected or ignored God in the past, now is the time, at the dawn of a new Millennium to understand that you were fearfully and wonderfully made and He loves you very much.

We encourage you to call us and let us tell you more about His love for you. We look forward to hearing from you . . . again.

This is Nina May praying for God’s blessings on you.

The federal government is trying to create yet one more dilemma for Americans.

Some in the current Administration are insisting that hate crimes legislation be passed that broaden that description. Others argue that all assault is a hate crime and it’s redundant to have a special category for them. But you can’t legislate against hate, no matter how many bills you pass.

The solution to preventing these hate crimes from occurring has been rejected and banned by the same government. The manual that explains clearly how we should all treat one another, with love, respect and honor . . . has been banished from schools and public places. The laws given, by God himself, that tell us to love one another, are forbidden to be posted. The person who exemplifies perfect love and has changed even the blackest heart is outlawed from being mentioned.

So the solution to solving crimes of hate is not to redefine them with inflammatory, politically correct words . . . the solution is to try and change that hate into love in the hearts of man.

The manual by the way is the Bible, and the man who continues to teach us to love . . . is Jesus.

This New Year’s eve, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, atheists, humanist and wiccans. . . all over the world, whether they believe it, or understand it, will be celebrating the two thousandth birthday of Jesus Christ.

Does that mean that everyone sipping champaign, singing Auld Lang Syne, is acknowledging that the birth of Jesus Christ was significant enough to change a world calendar’s time line? Not directly, but there is no other logical reason for the celebration.

B.C. means “Before Christ” and AD means, “in the Year of our Lord.” And those who click their heels together and pretend that BC stands for Before Current era are hard pressed to explain why the current era just happened to begin with the Birth of Christ.

So I pray for a special blessing for everyone who lifts a glass to toast the New Year, New Century . . New Millennium . . . that they will have a divine revelation about who Jesus Christ is. That they will see him lifting His glass to them . . . telling them how much He loves them and wants to have a personal relationship with them.

What will you be doing when the clock strikes twelve?

I saw the Jerry Springer show for the first time the other night. What an interesting experience.

The show was dealing with bondage and people who like to dominate others. There was a woman who introduced another woman . . . on a leash . . . as her pet and slave. They were the same race and sex, so the stereotypes don’t apply. But what was amazing is that this person, who had the freedom to get off her knees, take the collar from around her neck, and toss the chain aside . . .didn’t.

It was such an incredible statement about people who walk around with invisible collars on their necks, held captive to addictions or weaknesses.

We have the power to break the bonds of oppression, and control, but we don’t. Jesus said, “I came to give you life and give it more abundantly . . .I came to set the captives free.” He wasn’t just talking about the obvious captives, like this poor girl, he was talking about everyone who is held captive to their own insecurities, self-doubts, rejections, fears, and oppressions.

You have a choice to live free or . . . die a slave. Christ is the liberator . . . Satan the enslaver who came to steal, kill and destroy. Who do you serve?

During the month of October, Satan worshipers will be praying and fasting and will end it with a ceremony on their highest holy day, October 31. This is also the day your children celebrate by dressing up in costumes. But this day the masks are coming off.

The covens, witches, warlocks, spiritualists will gather that night to release curses and spiritual attacks against the city, the leaders, and especially pastors in this area. If you don’t believe in spiritual warfare, now is the time to become a believer. The battle lines are being drawn.

If you do believe, here is what you can do: Fast and pray to God in heaven, in the name of Jesus, for a binding of these spirits, and protection for all those targeted. But most importantly, pray for blessings on those trapped in the bondage of witchcraft and devil worship. God loves them .. .the devil hates them . . .it’s that simple.

So on the night Americans pretend to be something else, maybe is the night for Spirit-filled Christians to take the masks off, put their armor on, and do warfare in the name of Jesus.

A lot of our listeners who call or visit the website have asked what they can do to get involved. They say they appreciate being informed, but they don’t know what to do with the information.

If a neighbor called you and said he sees a burglar breaking into your home, to hurt your family and steal you blind . . . what is your response? Do you say, gee, thanks for the call, I’ll think about it? Do you ignore it thinking they can’t possibly mean your house? Or do you take the warning to heart and take action? If it is a serious threat .. . you take it seriously. But if you have become used to it, you tend to ignore it.

The purpose of these commentaries is to get you to think, to act, to challenge status quo and not allow yourself to be manipulated or intimidated by powers that be. But I can’t do it for you.

Here are some suggestions though. Your greatest weapon is prayer. Start using it. Share what you hear with friends and neighbors, forward the commentaries to friends, call your representatives and hold them accountable. And stop thinking its hopeless.

This is Nina May reminding you, that you have a lot of power . . . start using it!

This is Nina May. Today marks one year since we have been producing these daily radio commentaries. It also marks 25 years since my husband and I were married.

Many people have asked how a hippy and a member of the ROTC rifle team could have joined up . . . and stayed together.

There are a lot of small reasons like mutual respect, keeping a sense of humor, staying physically and mentally active. But the most important one, is that we have always had God at the center of our marriage.

He is our marriage counselor, physician, and referee .. . Our marriage not only survived, it thrived with God as the head of our home. So I just want to thank my husband for having the courage of his convictions to realize, early on, that he couldn’t be the type of husband he wanted to be . . .without the help of God. And I want to thank him for his humility, his gentleness and kindness, and the pure reflection he has always been of God’s love to me.

There is no greater gift that a man can give a woman than to love her purely, the way God does. So thank you dear for your pure reflection of God’s love, and forgiveness. Happy Anniversary. Oh, by the way .. . he was the hippy.

I seem to be having more and more discussions lately with intellectuals who are proud of the fact that they feel they don’t need faith in order to survive.

I listen to them struggle with explanations as to why faith is for the weak of mind, those without an option or hope in life. And I smile. My mind sees them going up ten floors in a crowded elevator having faith that the last technician knew what he was doing. Or driving through a green light with the faith of knowing that the red light on the other side works and that the other driver sees it. Or faith in the plane carrying them to their next destination. Or faith that when they sign a contract with an unknown quantity that that person will honor their part of it. Or faith that a government, that knows every detail of their lives, won’t use it against them.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they believed in the God who not only knows every detail of their lives, and created them . . . but loves them dearly? If I had to chose between believing in God or an elevator . . .

I think I’ll choose the one who never breaks down.
