I remember celebrating the fourth of July in England, when I was sixteen years old.

Well, I couldn’t exactly celebrate it because I couldn’t find anyone in England who understood the significance of it. I sort of forgot that they lost. And unfortunately, it seems that there are millions of Americans who forget that we won.

We won the right to have control over our destinies, to express ourselves, to worship as we choose, to keep and bear arms to protect ourselves from an oppressive government, to determine who lives in our homes, who our leaders are, who we choose to govern us.

And as we see six members of a nine member panel of appointed judges not having even a semi-working knowledge of the document that guaranteed these inalienable rights, then maybe it is time to remind ourselves again. Just who are we as a nation?

We stretch the constitution to justify killing unborn and partially born children while ignoring it to allow prayer in school.

We enlarge the first amendment to allow degrading and misogynist pornography, but insist that the right to keep and bear arms is not a right reserved to the individual . .. even though it is in the Bill of Rights . . .reserved to the individual. M

aybe this July Fourth, instead of cooking hotdogs and watching firecrackers, maybe we should all read the constitution together and remember why we are celebrating this holiday.

In a letter from Thomas Jefferson to Henry Lee he talks about two different political parties.

He said… “Men by their constitutions are naturally divided into two parties… Those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes. AND Those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them, cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depository of the public interest. In every country these two parties exist; and in every one where they are free to think, speak, and write, they will declare themselves.”

It seems as though as Ecclesiastes says, “there is nothing new under the sun.” The only thing that is new is the PR spin about each party. The one selling itself as having confidence in the people while it is busy controlling every aspect of their lives, is the same one that fears and distrusts the people.

But the key to any party system, especially in a democratic republic… is for people to learn to think and speak for themselves . .. otherwise they become the pawns of any party.

This is Nina May suggesting if you must align yourself with a party… choose one that respects you as an individual . .. not one that treats you like a subject.

Our very intelligent Justice Department has decided to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. In a rush to teach big business a lesson, the socialists are gleeful at the prospect of forcing Bill Gates to redistribute his wealth.  He is being forced to basically cut his company in two and give half away.

Well, I have a suggestion for Microsoft who employs thousands of people in the US, and contributes billions in taxes whether directly, indirectly. Close down all operations in the United States and shop for a country that really is pro-free market, and invest in it.  Stimulate their economy, hire their people, grow their infrastructure, increase their tax revenue base.

There are many countries with a GNP less than Microsoft’s annual income. And then, with products made offshore, of course it will increase the price for consumers at home, so they will be forced to go out and find competing software and not complain that they have no choice and were FORCED to settle for whatever Microsoft products.

Maybe finally the whiners will stop whining, and Bill can get on with his life where hard work, industry, and creativity are rewarded… not punished.

This is Nina May wondering… who’s next?

Now that America is celebrating the new discovery of the importance of the father, they should naturally rally around a father who is being persecuted by the government.

Johan Harder, who was home schooling his eleven children in Germany, had his home ransacked by the police. He was threatened with fines and imprisonment if he did not return his children to the state for public education.

Let’s analyze this. If his eleven children came to America in a raft to keep from having to go to public school, would the US government send them back to be with their dad… and support his rights as a dad to home school his kids?

If he was in America and wanted to teach them at home, would he have the full support of the people who have recently discovered the rights of a father are paramount over the rights of the government?

If Elian Gonzalez’ dad was home schooling him in Germany… and his home was broken into by the police and Elian forced to go to a public school… would Janet Reno have an opinion about his right to choose home schooling for his son over the state telling him how he should be educated?

Should the US government make a statement on behalf of Mr. Harder’s rights to home school his children since the children belong to the father, not the state… no matter what the circumstances?

Happy Father’s Day… enjoy it while the PR is in your favor.

A friend of ours was raised in communist Hungary and was forced, as a little boy to join the young pioneers and wear, what he referred to as… a “goofy suit.”

He said he was seven and he refused to join the young pioneers, refused to wear the suit, and refused the communist indoctrination they INSISTED that all children go through.

He knew that was not his destiny, that he was created to be free and independent and told his parents what he had done.

As a result of their inability to “convince” their child that he should willingly be brainwashed… they both lost their positions as doctors… even though there were not enough doctors to take care of everyone in the country.

They were fined, put under house arrest and went through very difficult times. That is one of the reasons he was in America and could share this story freely without fear of arrest.

He refused to wear the goofy suit and buy the goofy ideology that would have robbed him of his identity, his individuality, and his future.

It is too bad they don’t allow him into the prison at Wye Plantation to explain to Elian Gonzalez that he doesn’t have to wear the goofy suit either… so one day he might be able to help another little boy escape the prison of communism.

Remember when Barry Goldwater was running for office and Lyndon Johnson’s campaign did the TV commercial of a little girl picking daisies in a field, when she looks up and sees a mushroom cloud.

That was all the viewer needed to see to know that Barry Goldwater would get them into a nuclear war and the cute little girl running through the daisies would be vaporized.

Those were the years following the Cuban missile crisis, duck and cover, bomb shelters, psychological manipulation of kids, and scaring them to death into thinking they would not survive a nuclear war It was a scare tactic of the disarmament group to keep us stuck in the standoff of Mutually Assured Destruction while opposing a strengthened defense.

The Strategic Defense Initiative was maligned as being offensive against our very gentle and peaceful cold war adversaries. Even President Carter’s daughter Amy said her greatest fear was nuclear proliferation.

So the liberals effectively lobbied against allowing Americans to defend themselves miliarily… very much like they are lobbying now to prevent Americans from defending themselves individually. The scene has changed but the players and plot are the same.

We have seen a variety of marches and rallies through the years. Some are small and insignificant, and some change the course of history.

The most significant ones, which really generate grass roots support, are the ones whose origins are the grass roots. Where the people have put up with status quo long enough and they want to affect a change.

On the other hand you have the rally, billed as grassroots, but really organized by people with a specific political agenda which serves to disseminate falsehoods and propaganda. They are easy to spot.

The signs are all pre-printed and handed out the docile masses, the media all laud the effort as exemplary and honorable. The political leaders who rely on disinformation to stay in power are present to applaud the efforts of the manipulated masses. And of course, it is all very well-funded by sources who have a stated interest in promoting a specific political philosophy, and making a specific political statement.

Now, you might think I am referring to the Million Moms on the Mall rally. And although it does fit in all those categories, I was really thinking more about the 400,000 people who just happened to spontaneously appear on the streets of Havana just hours after Elian Gonzalez is reunited with his father.

We expect to see this type of pre-programed, media-backed and politically motivated propaganda display in a communist country. But when it occurs in a free country and the message is that all guns are bad and we should ban them all… then you sort of wonder what country you are in.

An interesting cultural and historical interlude occurred on the streets of Washington, D.C. the other day. There was a visiting group of Vietnamese communist party officials and representatives. And by party, I mean communist party. They are walking in front of the White House and they encountered a demonstration on the other side of the street with signs and protestors shouting, “The Solution is a Communist Revolution.”

My first question of course is solution to what? It can’t be to Clinton because he is . .. but the reaction of the visiting communists was laughter. They could not believe that in a free country, that ostensibly, politically, philosophically and militarily has been their enemy, would allow their position to be paraded on the streets .. in front of the President’s home.

Well… I guess they don’t know our president.  But really… they don’t know our country and what makes it so unique in the world. And that is why 58,000 or our citizens gave their lives to show them that free expression… whether you agree with it or not… is far greater than living your life in fear and by someone else’s standards.

By the way, they are suffering economically and desperate for foreign investments to stimulate the economy. So much for communism. It seems as though the free market system is still the answer to problems that persist every community in the world and even the communists realize it.

The WTO and World Bank protestors were not unusual to D.C. There have been groups of conservatives protesting outside these buildings for years. In fact, I remember a few years ago, sending a new intern down to a protest outside the World Bank.

He never asked why he was going or what the protest was all about… He was just thrilled that within his first week in Washington, he was going to be able to participate in a bonafide rally. Isn’t America great?

I am very impressed by the number of high school kids taking place in the protests. Kids who don’t even know the names of their congressmen or the capital of Idaho, but they miraculously know what WTO stands for… And what it does. Or do they?

The protestors’ only demand was that debts to third world countries be forgiven. It takes three days of tying up traffic to say that? And their concern for the homeless and starving around the world was not reflected once in their concern for the homeless and starving in DC. So what gives? Who is behind this masquerade of feigned concern?

I am willing to admit I got my intern to do my dirty work… Will the people behind these kids be as honest?

Let’s compare notes on the Microsoft trial and the impeachment trial of Bill Clinton.

Bill Gates is punished for stimulating the economy, opening up computer technology to the average non-techno-geek, and making the government tons of money. His crime… he was creative, hardworking and made the fatal mistake of believing that we live in a free market system where hard work is rewarded and not punished.

Bill Clinton on the other hand commits perjury that has caused the average citizen to spend time in jail and he is hailed as a hero as though he discovered a cure for cancer.

When Bill Clinton showed incredible creativity in refusing to answer even the simplest question with evasive nuances, he is applauded as being sharp and a tough advocate.

When Bill Gates stumbles on a few sentences or gets a little testy they practically have the padded wagon waiting to cart him away.

There are two Bills and two different judicial systems that tried these men. One Justice Department was determined to destroy big business, the other was determined to hold up as a paradigm of virtue actions that if committed by anyone else, would have put them in jail.

Do we have double standards in America? You tell me at ninamay.com.
